Anubis and Anput; Egypt's god and goddess of the after life.

Anubis is one of the most recognized and talked about gods from ancient Egypt. He was depicted as either a man with a jackal's head or just a jackal. He weighs the heart of the dead with that of an ostrich feather to determine if the soul is worth an afterlife. The rest of the organs are put into canonic jars. Each jar represents a son of Horus that protects that organ for the after life; (from left to right) Qebehsenuef, with the head of a hawk protects the intestines; Imsety, with the head a of a human protects the liver; Duamutef, with the head a jackal protects the stomach; and Hapi with the head of a baboon protects the lungs. Anubis's female counterpart is Anput. She is seldom shown wearing the head of a jackal, however, many modern adaptations of her show her this way.
